THE NEW COMPETITION

The 1st Literary-Idol Competition is here!

Well it's been a good few months now since the last competition (the 2nd CCDB Writing Competition) finished and since then it seems that all I have been doing is planning the next competition.

Between times the site has made a few adjustments (which I hope you like) for which I'd like to thank Kerry, Michael, Jack and Bart for helping with. Particular mention must go to Michael for all the bmp files I lifted from his site and to Kerry for twisting friend's arms for the once in a lifetime prize.

Which reminds me, you're not here to read my drivel but to enter a competition, so I best lay down the rules:

  • This year there are two categories. One for completed stories over 10,000 words and one for uncompleted stories (i.e. opening chapters) under 10,000 words

  • All entries must contain original characters.

  • All entries are to be sent via e-mail to this site (either in the body of the e-mail or by a word/word pad attachment) by no later than 11:59PM EST on May 30th 2005.

  • The e-mail address you should use is: voting@literary-idol.com.
  • All voting is to take place via e-mail. All posters on the following discussion boards are eligible to vote:
    1. Clive Cussler Discussion Board;
    2. Jack DuBrul Discussion Board;
    3. CommanderBond.net
  • All people voting must supply their screen name and which board they post on.

  • We will announce a deadline for voting once we are able to determine the final volume of entries to be voted upon, but you can expect it to be somewhere around July 15th 2005.

  • If it appears that people are registering usernames just so they can increase votes for a particular story then their vote will be ignored! If you have happened to stumbe across this fine site and wish to vote then please do so but I would ask that you let me know how you found the site.

  • From previous competitions it is clear that people like to enter to get feedback on their story. Could I please ask, nay beg, that everyone who votes also provides at least one piece of feedback for at least one story. A small pointer: feedback like it was really good and I enjoyed it though praising doesn't really help the author in anyway. However something along the lines of the characters were well developed and rounded but I felt that more detail could have been given to the localé does help them. See, not that hard and only takes up a few moments of your time.

  • The Prize. Ahhh yes, what you're really interested in. Well, there would appear to be a prize, in fact a bloody brilliant prize if you ask me. The winners of both contests will have their manuscripts read, critiqued and provided with written feedback by a well-known published and professional author. As well, the winner of the "completed manuscript contest" will receive an additional prize of an autographed copy of the author's upcoming novel (published date to be confirmed).

So, now you know what the rules are what are you doing still reading this?
